Steel Detailer Training

An exciting journey towards Professional Excellence

In September 2025, we launched our very own Steel Detailer training course – Unit 1! And Unit 2 is planned for release in 2026.

ACMA members are invited to join us in embracing a new era of training!

What the Course Is

The ACMA Detailing Course has been created to support the development of Detailer cadets—individuals employed by detailing firms with no experience. It provides:

  • Structured, consistent foundational training for new cadets
  • A way for detailing companies to accelerate in house training and reduce the pressure on senior staff
  • Industry specific learning, funded and developed by the ACMA
  • A pathway for ACMA members to build essential skills in an industry where learning traditionally takes years of hands on exposure
  • A pathway for ACMA members to build essential skills in an industry where learning traditionally takes years of hands on exposure
  • Training that reflects the realities of modern detailing, including the challenges created by declining design documentation quality
  • A resource designed to help ACMA business members achieve better training outcomes and stronger ROI when taking on new cadets

Individuals can join the ACMA as a Detailer in Training, which provides access to Unit 1 of the course.

What the Course Is Not

To ensure clarity and realistic expectations, it’s important to understand what this course does not provide:

  • It is not a qualification from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
  • It is not a TAFE course or any nationally recognised certification
  • It will not make a participant a qualified detailer upon completion
  • Even with Unit 2 (currently in development), the program remains introductory, covering only the fundamentals
  • It is not a replacement for the extensive on the job experience required to become competent in steel detailing
  • It is not a global accreditation—although, to our knowledge, no other course worldwide offers this level of detail specific to steel detailing

Course Structure & Duration

The course is divided across two units and is designed to be completed over a 12-month period.
